The Speech-language Therapy service can assess, diagnose, treat, report, and provide advice for adult patients with communication and swallowing disorders. The team does this for inpatients, outpatients and people in the Hawke's Bay community.
The service sees people with a variety of disorders, including:
- aphasia (language problems)
- dysarthria or apraxia (motor speech problems)
- dysphonia (voice)
- dysphagia (swallowing).
We hold video fluoroscopy clinics and have a service to allow for fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing.
