- When you arrive, check in with the outpatient receptionist.
- You may need a blood test before your appointment. This will be stated on your appointment letter.
- We try to see you as near to your appointment time as possible but there can be a wait.
During your appointment
- We will explain any proposed treatment, including the risks involved and any alternative treatments, before you decide whether to go ahead.
- You can ask any questions you have, including if you do not understand something the doctor is saying or there is something that is worrying you.
- We might ask if you would like to be involved in a clinical trial.
- You may be required to have other blood tests, x-rays or other tests. This means that you may spend longer at the hospital than you expected.
- Occasionally you may not be seen by your usual consultant, but by another member of the haematology team.
