Hapū Wānanga

A FREE kaupapa Māori labour, birth and parenting programme designed for whānau in Taranaki.

The Hapū Wānanga ki Taranaki programme is a fun and interactive course that shares information on tikanga Māori birthing and parenting practices, labour and birth, complementary therapies, safe sleep, breastfeeding and more. Whānau will have an opportunity to make their own ipu whenua (clay vessel) for babies placenta as well as a whītau muka (muka tie) to use.

  • Marae based, venues vary for each wānanga.
  • Time: 9am - 4pm both days
  • Duration: Two days

What is involved?

Preparing to welcome a new pēpē into your whānau can be equally exciting and overwhelming. Hapū Wānanga is an interactive and fun programme for you and your whānau to provide you with the best information and skills in preparation for parenthood.

The programme is led in a kaupapa Māori way, delivered by Māori midwives and health professionals.

Over the two days, you will hear from interesting speakers, participate in interactive workshops and connect with other whānau who are on the same parenting journey.

What is provided in the programme?

All meals are provided including morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, dietary requirements will be catered for. After completing both days or the online programme, you will receive a Wahakura and pēpē koha pack.
