Continuation of Stage One

Project Maunga Stage Two is the continuation of the Taranaki Base Hospital Redevelopment, initiated in August 2007 through the Health Services Improvement Project Business Case. Stage One was completed and commissioned in August 2013. The Stage One Acute Services Building was officially opened in June 2014 by former Minister of Health, Tony Ryall.

Building assessment

In April 2016 Taranaki DHB commenced a long-term programme to assess its buildings and ensure appropriate upgrades and developments of its buildings, infrastructure and maintenance services, as part of the preparation for the next stages of the long-term investment and strategic plan for the development of the Base Hospital campus.

Investment Logic Map

In June 2017 an Investment Logic Map workshop confirmed some key problems driving the case for further capital investment. Many of these issues were highlighted again recently in the Ministry of Health’s National Asset Management Plan current state assessment:

New East Wing Building

A key part of this development plan is the construction of the New East Wing Building which will enable the relocation of the following core clinical services: Emergency Department, Radiology, Laboratory, Maternity services, Neonatal, and Intensive Care Unit, incorporating High Dependency Unit and Coronary Care Unit.
