Young People 13 - 17 Years (until 18)

Free dental services continue for teenagers until their 18th birthday; regardless of whether they attend a school or not.

This care is government funded and mainly provided by dentists, although some patients may chose to remain with the Taranaki Community Oral Health Service.

Orthodontic treatment is not included.

Every patient enrolled is entitled to have at least one examination by a dentist or dental therapist every 12 months and will be offered any basic dental care as required.

Care will not be free if you chose a dentist who does not have a contract with the DHB.

How to enrol an adolescent/teen for dental treatment

• Contact a dentist on the list of dentists or in the Yellow Pages and ask if they offer free dental care to teenagers up until they are 18
  OR
• Contact your local Community Oral Health Service clinic and make an appointment
