Operating Theatres

The Operating Theatre Suite includes five theatres, a pre-operative area and a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU).

The service includes the Surgical Day Ward, on level 4, the Endoscopy Unit, above Outpatients, and the Sterile Services Department on level 3.

The theatres provide a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week service and cover general and laparoscopic surgery, orthopaedic and trauma, vascular, thoracic, gynaecology and obstetrics, urology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, maxillo-facial and dental surgery.

Hours

Theatres are fully staffed from 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 8.30am to 4.30pm on weekends and Public Holidays.

Outside of these hours the on-call team is available.

The Operating Theatre Suite is located on level 4 of the main ward block at Taranaki Base Hospital and is adjacent to the Intensive Care Unit.
