Neonatal Unit
We offer special care to premature and sick newborn babies.
The babies are welcomed as temporary patients within the Neonatal Unit and are looked after by a highly motivated, professional and committed team, dedicated to giving the best possible care.
The multidisciplinary team includes medical staff, nursing staff, social workers, a paediatric district nurse and visiting therapists.
We understand that having a baby in the neonatal unit can be a stressful time for everyone and we have a policy of keeping parents well informed. We encourage visiting and family involvement in baby's care.
While there is open visiting for family and friends, we ask that people with colds, sore throats, viruses or contagious diseases not visit.
We have limited rooming in facilities for mothers, who usually spend at least 48 hours with their baby prior to discharge. Following discharge we have a Neonatal Homecare Midwife who visits for as long as necessary. Babies are usually followed up by the paediatrician in outpatients.
There is a parents' support group which meets in the Neonatal Unit, on the first Thursday of each month.
