Taranaki DHB's Labcare Pathology Service incorporates laboratory services at Taranaki Base Hospital and Hawera Hospital. Both laboratories provide an extensive range of diagnostic testing in Biochemistry, Blood Bank, Haematology, Microbiology, Cytology and Histopathology.

Staff are available on both sites for the provision of inpatient and outpatient blood collection services. A Lamson Tube system has been recently installed at Taranaki Base Hospital to enable samples to be sent immediately from the wards direct to the laboratory.

The Taranaki Base Hospital Laboratory is located on the 3rd floor of the main hospital block and is a 24-hour, seven-day- a-week facility for inpatient specimen analysis. It is open to the public 7:30am - 5pm, Monday to Friday, and after hours by arrangement.

Hawera Hospital Laboratory is located in a building at the far end of the main car park and is open 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. For assistance after hours on-call staff are available.
