Surgical Day Ward

Located on Level 4, the Surgical Day Ward caters for day surgery and Day of Surgery admissions.

Prior to patients' surgery, they will come in for a pre-admission appointment. The Booking Office will notify the patient of this appointment and include instructions on preparing for the operation, eg when to stop eating. At the Pre Admission appointment the patient may receive more detailed information specific to their type of operation.

On the day of the operation, patients arrive at the same time regardless of the time scheduled for their operation. The times are 7.30am or 7.45am for morning surgery and 11.30am or 12noon for afternoon surgery. Patients are prepared for surgery by nurses in the Day ward.

Day of Surgery Admission patients leave the Day Ward for theatre and go to the appropriate ward after surgery for further care.

Day of Surgery patients come back to the Day Ward and are cared for there until they are discharged.
