Taranaki District Health Board Advisory Committee membership announced

Taranaki District Health Board Chairman John Young announced the new Advisory Committee membership today for the next three years.

Board members sit on the committees and additional knowledge and expertise has been recruited to compliment the skills of the board members and assist with the work of the committees.

“The governance of a District Health Board is a diverse and complex job and I’m confident the Committees will continue to play an important role in supporting the Board. Members of the public are welcome to observe most of the committee meetings, which are regularly advertised.”

Membership consists of:

Brief biography of additional members:

Donna Leatherby (Taranaki, Te Atiawa, Nga Ruahine , Ngati Toa Rangatira) Donna is a Trustee for Hapu and Marae. Employed as Health Promoter for Toiora – Healthy Lifestyles and works closely as the Health Promotion Coordinator for Hauora Taranaki PHO.

Brian Mathieson is a member Stratford Health Trust, Taranaki Electricity Trust, Chairman Central Taranaki Local Management Group Pinnacle. He is Chairman of Stratford Positive Ageing Committee, Chairman Palliative Care Committee, member of the Thomson Gallery Trust and member of various community committees.

David Tamatea lives in Opunake and works at TDHB in New Plymouth. He is Chairman of Te Whare Punanga Korero, Chairman of the Taranaki Disabilities Information Centre and a member of the Taranaki Hauora PHO Advisory Committee. He also has a number of other governance responsibilities within the community. His has been involved in the Disability Sector for over 25 years.

Tom Ryder Tom is a retired Secondary School teacher and former headmaster of New Plymouth Boys High School. He is a life member and former President of the Secondary Principals Association of NZ; Registrar of the Taranaki Justices of the Peace Association, Judicial Justice of the Peace; and member of the assessment panel of the National Excellence in Teaching Awards. Tom is the chairperson of the Pinnacle Taranaki PHO Board.

Tony Waghorn recently retired as TDHB clinical Director of Dental. Tony is chairman of a National Technical Advisory committee, executive of the NZ Flower Growers council, executive of NZ Dental Association and has vast governance experience.

Marion Wellington is the Taranaki regional coordinator for total mobility Marion is on the Disability Issues Working Party for NPDC, the Office for Disability Issues advisory committee in Wellington, the Disabled Persons Assembly (DCA) Taranaki region. She is the coordinator for the genealogy resource library in Waitara and a Community Worker for Waitara.

Dr Nic Boheimer is a consultant anaesthetist in Taranaki and has a wide knowledge of the health sector.

Jan Dunlop based in South Taranaki is a registered physiotherapist, director of Trinity Hospital and Rest home, a PHO Advisory Committee member and is involved in riding for the disabled and IHC.

Brian Jeffares was Mayor for the Stratford District for three terms. He is chairman of the Taranaki Electricity Trust and is also a trustee on the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust. He chairs the Stratford Health Trust.

Peter Moeahu is a member of Te Whare Punanga Korero and a trustee of Tui Ora Ltd. He has significant governance experience and sits on a number of iwi and land trusts
